Gen Z news provider TNM to launch podcast
Plus, David Byrne talks spatial audio on Broadway and St Paul's plays host to sound and light installation
GenZ focussed publisher The News Movement is to launch its first podcast.
12-part series Noted is due to go live on October 4 with the first three episodes covering…
The growing trend of plastic surgery in Turkey
A deep dive into UK festivals drug testing
An interview with former French football star Patrice Evra, on football, homophobia and abuse
TNM are working with Dino Sofos’ production company Persephonica (Political Currency, The News Agents, Dua Lipa: At Your Service) to produce the podcast.
Sofos said: “News podcasts are hugely popular, but no one has nailed a topical current affairs show for a younger audience yet.
“The News Movement, with Persephonica’s expertise, plans to change this. Noted will be truly authentic; presented and produced by a team of brilliant, diverse young women who reflect the audience we aim to reach.”
TNM’s social media first approach to journalism makes it likely video will play a part in this podcast strategy. It will also be interesting to see how they promote the show to their 168,000+ TikTok, 30,000+ Instagram, 27,000+ YouTube and just under 10,000 X followers.
✂️ Cut The Tape
According to Edison Research 76% of US Gen Z podcast listeners say they discover shows through seeing clips on social media. Looking at demographic information for the platforms we can assume those platforms include TikTok, Instagram and YouTube. If you want to reach this audience think about using Headliner.app, Clipgen.io or Zealous.app to create audiograms and video clips to promote your podcast on these platforms.

This week on #AllThingsAudio we spoke about a mock-up vid showing how tipping in XSpaces could look. With a few taps we could be tipping hosts and speakers directly from the Space. Clubhouse Chats has been a source of amusement and amazement over the last few weeks as people get to grips with the new asynchronous Chats feature. Me and Madalyn spoke about a few formats we’ve spotted so far that have entertained and fascinated us.

My interest in social audio took me back over to Clubhouse last week to check out the updated app. The new asynchronous voice note version of the app is giving rise to a variety of content as users try to figure out how this thing works and what it might be used for. Amidst the ‘is this thing on?’ and ‘has anyone worked out where live rooms are?’ notes I discovered some gems.
This from All Things Audio correspondent Morgan Evetts has to be my favourite though. Morgan spent a week in Seville, documenting his journey and much of his trip in voice notes shared on Clubhouse. He recorded snippets of flamenco dancers, crowded restaurants and busy art galleries. His friends (followers) had the ability to record their own message in the Chat with some suggesting places he should go and others reminiscing and sharing their own memories of Seville. A piece of memorable audio that demonstrates the power of connection through a shared listening experience.
*Please note to access the Chat in the Clubhouse app you’ll need to add me as a friend (@suzecooper). You can also head to your desktop to listen.
It’s been a week of editing stories for various art exhibitions and campaigns this week, with a few podcast edits thrown in for good measure.
I’m looking forward to a weekend of exploring the Moog Mavis which has sat for too long on my desk.
