This week’s Podcast Movement conference in Denver has unsurprisingly prompted some moves from major players.
Apple Podcasts has announced an enhanced dashboard for podcasters offering subscriptions via the platforms. It is expected to show conversions from free to paid and breakdown of monthly and annual subscriptions. The new analytics tools will be available via Apple Podcasts Connect. There was no announcement regarding the dashboard and metrics for standard uploads so we can only think there isn’t one. Leaving those of us not providing subscription content with the rather lacklustre stats we have always seen.
Spotify has announced a number of customisation options and creator tools for podcasters, as well as the addition of auto-generated tags to help improve discoverability for listeners. Podcasters will be able to add a bio on their show page, select a ‘best place to start’ on episodes and pin two ‘host recommendations’ to the page. Later this year, the ability to select content for the Spotify preview feed is expected to be added. Up until now content in the TikTok-style feed has been auto-generated.
YouTube has finally said RSS feeds will be supported on the platform by the end of the year. It’s the news many podcasters were waiting to hear after months of radio silence from the video giant around podcasting. Bosses said more people can expect to be able to tune into podcasts via the YouTube Music app later this year. Up until now podcasts have only been available via the music streaming app in the US.

Great to meet fellow broadcaster turned podcast pro
in the Stop. Rewind. Play. chat this week. We also welcomed Mel to the chat and heard a bit about her plans to get back into podcasting. If you haven’t caught up with the chat yet then do come and find us! It’s set up exclusively for subscribers to Stop. Rewind. Play. and I am hoping to post there a few times a week to get to know the SRP community a little better. The intro thread is already live so do jump in and let us know what you are working on.
To join the chat - tap the two speech bubbles on the lower nav bar in the mobile app or hit chat in the left hand menu on the web.
See you next week!
